Care Guide Gemstones

How to keep your jewel shining?

  1. Remember the golden rule: wear more & clean less. Friction caused while wearing your jewellery, will give impurities less chance to adhere to the surface.
  2. Cleaning your home? Hide your precious treasures. The chemicals in cleaning agents can damage your jewellery.
  3. Jewellery and perspiration are no friends. Remove your pieces before hitting the gym.
  4. Always apply perfume, sunscreen and hairspray before putting on your jewellery.
  5. Shampoo, soap, chlorine and salt water can all tarnish your jewellery. Remove your jewellery before jumping in the pool, the ocean or taking a shower.

Protect your gems!

Certain stones are more delicate than others. Opals, Turquoise and Pearls need some extra attention to keep them in their best condition. Opals can easiy crack or damage from extreme changes in temperature, and pearls should be stored separate from other objects that may scratch their surface. Turquoise should not be cleaned with a brush, but with a soft cloth or even just your finger. Do not expose your Opals, Turquoise, and Pearls to alcohol and chemical based substances such as hand sanitizer and perfume. As with perfumes and hairspray, the alcohol in hand sanitizer can change the surface of your delicate stones.

How to store your jewellery

  1. Silver oxidises naturally due to air, light and humidity. The smallest amount of moisture in the air can lead to tarnishing. Therefore, keep your jewellery in a dark and dry place and banish your jewellery box from the bathroom.
  2. If your jewellery comes in contact with water, perfume, sweat, or any other form of moisture, be sure to wipe and dry the piece.
  3. Keep each piece separately to prevent scratching and tangling. Keep the original jewellery pouches and store them in a jewellery box. You can also place an anti-tarnish strip inside for further protection.
Care Guide Cleaning

How to clean your jewellery

Care Guide Sterling Silver

  1. Tarnished sterling silver jewellery can be carefully polished with a soft toothbrush and a mild, preferably natural, dish soap. Handle with extra care when cleaning jewellery with pearls and gemstones.
  2. For a little extra shine, occasional cleaning with a special cloth (which will soon be available in our online boutique) will keep your sterling silver jewel shiny and remove oxidation.
  3. Do not clean oxidized sterling silver jewellery with a special cloth or soft toothbrush, this will damage the layer of oxidation and protection we carefully applied to your jewel. You can simply use your fingers and a mild, preferably natural, dish soap to wash away any dirt it encountered.
